Day of Champions 18 Recap#
It’s been a while since I’ve posted to our wonderful website; life’s been busy as you may or may not know! Day of Champions exceeded even my expectations for how good it was going to be and so it seems a worthy moment to recap the event, post some photos, and look ahead for the Dublin FGC.
If you’re just looking for the photo gallery, check the FGC Ireland discord for the full thing! Oh, and there’s a feedback form HERE. It will take you 2 minutes. GO.
The Day Itself#
We had 60(!!!) attendees across five games, with an average bracket size of just under 17 players. The most entered game was unsurprisingly the brand new Marvel Tokon, with a huge 22 entries. I’m very glad that I limited entry to three brackets only as one can imagine what a logistical nightmare it would have been otherwise.
Day of Champions 18 was a great payoff for all the lessons learned from the last 2 DoCs we’ve run. We upgraded our setup equipment with some 24" monitors, massively improved the stream thank to the kind donations of Brian Von Doom (who even showed up to man the stream!), and put on an event running five games in one day.

Speaking of, five games proved very doable and while we did run an hour “late” (we are given the venue til 22:00, but I like to be finishing up by 18:30 so people can do DoC as a day trip), this was mostly down to running a stream for a new game in which people haven’t come close to honing their skills on yet. I’ve no doubt that Tokon will progress faster at the upcoming Button Mash. That being said, apologies to the players who stuck around late to finish off our final bracket, we will hard to make sure it doesn’t happen again.
Congrats to our champions Naphiel (UNI), Jo (GGST), Fergus (T8), Owen (2XKO), and Strawberry (Tokon)! Check out the top 8ers for the full list of honours. And look forward to the hall of champions (coming soon™).

Looking ahead to DoC XIX#
First off, in case you missed the link earlier, feedback form for this DoC is live HERE!
Unless I receive overwhelming feedback only, I’d like to proceed with 5 games at DoC from now on. We may also look at shaking up our current game line-up so that certain games are not always mainstays at the event. It could be to make room for retro games, it could be to allow other modern games to have their a moment in the spotlight. We’ll have to see how things are looking in a month’s time.

It was unfortunate that we had to wait 3 months to run this DoC but my hopes are that number 19 will be in October some time and that we’ll be able to stick closer to a two month schedule from here on out. That being said I am returning to full time work this September so we’ll see how that goes!
Thank yous#
Thank you to everyone who has attended a Dublin event over the last two years, and to those who help to run those events. If I start naming everyone, I’m liable to forget some people but really I must shout out Shane “Spriral” D. He’s run a lot of YADWs that I haven’t been able to attend in the last few months, and he was instrumental to DoC 18 going so smoothly this weekend. He brought equipment, set up most of the players stations, TO’d events even though he was competing, and helped tear things down at the end of the day.
If you’re going to say thanks to anyone for this event, I’d prefer if it was him rather than me.
Well that’s all for now! See ye at the next event :D
